Zanzibar Expands Investment Opportunities To Attract Foreign Investors

Zanzibar opened up ten small islands located outside the main islands of Zanzibar (Unguja and Pemba). This decision was made on the basis of "vision for diversification of high-end investments" - says the Zanzibar Investment Promotion Authority (ZIPA) in a statement.

"The small islands surrounding Zanzibar are major assets that have enormous potential for both investors and the island’s residents."

For investors, the Zanzibar government has prepared a number of advantages:

  • Residence permit when buying real estate (together with their partners and a maximum of four children under the age of 20)

  • No requirement for a minimum period of residence in the country

  • 50% exemption from capital gains on the acquired property

  • 100% foreign ownership

  • 100% exemption from global income for foreigners

The islands “with pristine beaches, fertile soil, abundant marine resources and populations eager to work on potential developments, are ideal for specialised investment projects,” said ZIPA Executive Director Mr. Shariff A. Shariff

However, Zanzibar is not the only country offering a residency after purchasing a property. Portugal, Serbia, Malta and a number of other countries offer a number of investment opportunities for foreigners.
