Ukraine Is Considering The Possibility Of Introducing Dual Citizenship

At a recent meeting, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said that the introduction of dual citizenship in Ukraine is a sign of civilized countries that will strengthen the state.

“I will tell you my personal opinion. Dual citizenship is a sign of civilized countries. Dual citizenship is the norm in many civilized countries... My position is that dual citizenship should be definitely introduced. It will strengthen us ” the Prime Minister said at a press conference

Millions of Ukrainians live abroad and many would like to have a Ukrainian passport. According to Shmygal, this is legal and transparent. Such people “will be able to support the country, participate in public life, attract investment and, possibly, return to Ukraine. That would be a great advantage."

In February 2021, the National Security and Defense Council instructed the Cabinet of Ministers to resolve the issue of dual citizenship in Ukraine.

At the moment, the Verkhovna Rada has several legislative initiatives on dual citizenship, which are being considered in committees. Shmygal expressed hope that the parliament will consider them.

Many countries do offer the option of dual citizenship. Investors, in turn, willingly take advantage of this opportunity and acquire citizenship by investment.
