Dominica Approves $275 million Supplementary Estimates
/Hon. Gretta Roberts, Minister for Governance, Public Service Reform, Citizenship Empowerment, Social Justice, and Ecclesiastical Affairs, spoke about the approval of Supplementary Estimates. This estimate is for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2021, in the amount of US$275,150,327.13.
These funds have been used in various ministries due to the wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. They refer to advances received from the Contingency Fund for the period July 1, 2020, to June 30, 2021.
“Of this amount, seven million, two hundred and seventy-seven thousand, mime hundred and ninety-nine dollars ($2,277,999) was allocated to Covid-19 health response. The sum of two million, five hundred and ninety-seven thousand, eight hundred and eighty-one dollars ($2,597,881) was used to procure Covid-19 related pharmaceuticals and medical products. These funds came from the World Bank, through its OECS Regional Health Project,” Roberts said.
A significant part of the funds was invested in medical institutions. The funds were also used for the Dominicans affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
More than $5 million has been spent to offset seven internationally recognized due diligence agencies that conduct due diligence on potential investors for the Dominica Citizenship by Investment (CBI) program.
Dominica's Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit added that CBI is an integral part of the country, allowing funding for various projects.
“The CBI revenues are going from strength to strength and by the grace of God it will continue to go from strength to strength so that we can implement some of the much-needed investments in this country to address poverty and to create jobs in the economy, to grow the economy, to build hotels, to build schools, to build hospitals to build infrastructure and to invest in the people of Dominica to create a better way of life,” said Prime Minister Skerrit.
The Dominica Citizenship by Investment Program has ranked first in the CBI Index for a year in a row. And every year the interest of investors in this country is only growing.
