Cyprus Is Changing Its Tourism Concept

According to the Ministry of Tourism of the Republic of Cyprus, the strategy of work will be changed. The country will now focus more on attracting individual tourists.

According to statistics, in 2019, 70% of tourists came in groups and only 30% individually. In 2021, the percentage of individual tourists has changed. Now it is about 60% of travelers independently book hotels and select routes for travel.

In this regard, the head of the tourism sub-ministry, Savvas Perdios, plans to visit 19 countries in half a year. For example, during a recent trip to Bahrain, Savvas Perdios held talks with Gulf Air, which is considering Larnaca as a hub for flights to Europe and the United States.

According to the head of the sub-ministry, “the main goal is to present a new vision of tourism in Cyprus and talk about the work done to improve the tourism product, about our villages and the authentic routes that we will launch next week, about special forms of tourism”.

At the moment, the government pays a lot of attention to online promotion so that residents of other countries are more aware of the history of Cyprus, traditions, etc.

Separately, it should be noted that low-cost airlines Wizz Air, Ryanair, and others launch year-round routes, and not only during tourist seasons.

A separate government plan is to attract vegetarians. Especially for the development of this area, a list of licensed catering establishments serving vegetarian dishes will be created.
